Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

We are trudging through the last several weeks of winter but we still are relying on our furnaces, especially during cold nights. Not much is worse than going to bed at night just to realize your furnace won’t start up. If this happens to you, here are a few things you can check yourself before your call Knochelmann Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters each month. If you don’t, they can end up clogged, obstructing air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem silly, but make sure the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently switched to the “Off” position.
