Last month, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning of Raleigh received a phone call from a wonderful man named Jimmy from the Raleigh community who told our team about a special project he was in the midst of for his neighbor Kyla.
Kyla Tracy is an exceptional 9 year old who was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, commonly known as brittle bone disease. She relies on a wheelchair to move around and her house was not wheelchair compatible, due in large part to the size of the chair. When Jimmy became aware of the problem, he thought about remodeling the Tracy family’s home to make it entirely wheel-chair compatible. Unfortunately, due to the age of the home, it was going to be a bigger job than he realized. Finding his way around the obstacles, Jimmy elected to try transforming the Tracy family’s carport into a wheelchair accessible mini-suite, which would include Kyla’s own bedroom, bathroom, playroom, and kitchenette.
Thrilled to have a working plan, Jimmy started contacting local contractors, including building supply companies, plumbers, and electricians and they all said they would be honored to help and donate services and supplies. He contacted Service Experts of Raleigh for the heating and AC part of Kyla’s new apartment. A couple of Service Experts residential sales consultants went over to find out more about the renovation and were amazed by how smart and sweet Kyla was and they knew they had to help.
Kyla’s father, Jared Tracy, said he had planned to pay for the $12,000 heating and cooling systems for Kyla’s new living area, but with the assistance of Lennox and RE Michel, Service Experts was able to present Kyla’s family an invoice printed with the following:
“We are honored to present you with a full heating and cooling system free of charge as long as we can all have a hug.”
The employees at Service Experts of Raleigh were overwhelmed to help provide such an extraordinary girl with a much-deserved place to live and get around in her wheelchair efficiently and safely. But there’s still more to do. Kyla’s family is fundraising to purchase a wheel-chair friendly van to better transport Kyla and her wheelchair.
