Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t here yet but the temperatures are definitely rising and that means it’s time for A/C season. Before the temperatures soar and you’re running your A/C system 24/7 to stay comfortable, remember to call your air conditioning technician to come out and perform your annual ac maintenance.

In addition to an AC system tune-up, there are a few other ways you can prepare for the cooling season before higher temperatures are officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

Don’t start taking your air conditioner apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the space around your system to clear away branches and leaves that have made their way to your air conditioner during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the system and cut back any overgrown bushes or vegetation to make sure your A/C system is clear of debris. Keeping a clear airway can help keep your A/C equipment running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Knochelmann Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning will swap out your home’s basic air filters when they perform your air conditioning tune-up as part of your regular A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also change your HVAC air filters in between maintenance visits, and it’s advised that you do so at least every 30-60 days for optimal performance. If you don’t change your air filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of you and your loved ones and the efficiency of your air conditioning equipment, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your seasonal A/C system service. Note that a clogged filter could even damage your A/C system.

  • Block the Sun

Help keep your home cooler by hanging blackout drapes or window shades to help keep the sun from heating up your home. This may also help save your furniture and floors from fading or experiencing sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you forgot to check the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors over daylight savings, now is the time. Don’t forget to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is working properly so you don’t end up calling your air conditioning repair technician because your air conditioner isn’t turning on and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider investing in an automated thermostat so you can adjust the temperature while you’re away and save money on your heating and cooling bills.

A seasonal air conditioner tune-up service could make your system up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your cooling bills. Call Knochelmann Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning today to make sure your air conditioner is prepared to keep you cool and comfortable through the summer and ask about our spring specials on AC Precision tune-ups.
